Lupin and Forest Laboratories reach agreement on Memantine tablets

Lupin and Forest Laboratories have announced an agreement regarding a dispute over Memantine tablets, a therapy they previously agreed to collaborate on.

The former organisation contested that a patent was invalid or had not been infringed, resulting in litigation with its partner firm.

However, in adherence with the settlement, Lupin will be licensed under the relevant patents and is free to commercially launch its generic product in January 2015 or earlier.

Nilesh Gupta, group president and executive director to the board at Lupin commented: “The settlement with Forest is in line with us prudently managing our litigation pipeline and creating value for the company.”

In October, Lupin announced that, during the second quarter of 2009, its net profits rose by 39 per cent.

Additionally, the firm’s net sales also underwent growth of 23 per cent to a total of 11,147 million Indian rupees (143.1 million pounds).
