Lupin reports 39% rise in net profits

Lupin has announced that, during the second quarter of 2009, its net profits rose by 39 per cent.

Additionally, the firm’s net sales also underwent growth of 23 per cent to a total of 11,147 million Indian rupees (143.1 million pounds).

It earnings before interest, tax and depreciation for the period stood at 2,180 million Indian rupees, representing a rise of 21 per cent.

Dr Kamal Sharma, managing director of Lupin, stated: “Backed by 14 quarters of steady and consistent performance we continue to witness strong growth. Going forward, we continue firing on all cylinders, consolidating on the gains made over the past three years.”

Lupin, a firm recognised particularly for its manufacturing of tuberculosis drugs, employs more than 400 scientists.

It has a significant presence in the areas of cephalosporins, cardiovascular treatments including prils and statins, diabetology and non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs.
