Malvern Zetasizer Nano wins praise from Georgia Tech

Malvern Instruments has won praise from researchers at the Georgia Institute of Technology School of Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering for its Zetasizer Nano molecular analysis tool.

Scientists at the facility have been utilising the system to conduct dynamic light scattering (DLS) procedures in order to predict difficult-to-measure aggregation behaviours in proteins.

Using the Zetasizer Nano, team members have been able to evaluate small volumes of stable protein solutions with low concentrations of different salts, allowing them to take measurements of ion-specific trends in the kinetics of aggregation.

Sven Holger Behrens, associate professor at Georgia Tech, said the Malvern Zetasizer's user-friendliness has made it easy for students to familiarise themselves with its operations.

He added: "The fact that you can make these measurements in relatively small sample volumes, facilitated by cuvettes also supplied by Malvern, is also very helpful, as is the instrument's convenient temperature control."

Last month, the company expanded its product range with the launch of its new Mastersizer 3000 laser diffraction particle size analyser, a device with applications in a wide range of laboratory settings.
