Medtronic announces Melody Transcatheter trial results
Medtronic product the Melody Transcatheter has been the subject of a study yielding a positive outcome.
According to the trial, use of the equipment resulted in procedural success in 97 per cent of patients, as well as overall acceptable study safety outcomes with no deaths or long-term procedure-related medical complications.
Dr Evan Zahn, lead author of the study and director of cardiology at the Miami Children’s Hospital’s congenital heart institute, said that the Transcatheter represents an “exciting breakthrough” for those requiring repeat operations.
“The Melody Transcatheter valve is a viable procedural alternative designed to reduce the number of invasive surgeries and their associated risks,” he continued.
Another Medtronic product – the MiniMed Paradigm Real-Time System ? was this month found to bring about improved glycemic control in paediatric patients who have been newly diagnosed with type 1 diabetes.
This information was attained during a trial conducted in Austria, France, Germany and Poland.
