Medtronic announces takeover of Advanced Uro-Solutions
Medtronic has announced the acquisition of Advanced Uro-Solutions, a privately-held developer of neurostimulation products for the treatment of bladder control issues.
The company is the developer and manufacturer of the Nuro percutaneous tibial nerve stimulation system, which has been approved in the US for the treatment of overactive bladder and associated symptoms of urinary urgency, urinary frequency and urge incontinence.
Medtronic plans to include revenue from the Advanced Uro-Solutions product line as part of the neuromodulation division, within the restorative therapies group segment. It will be launching the Nuro system in the US in the coming 12 months.
Terms of the acquisition agreement, which was finalised in December 2014, were not disclosed.
Linnea Burman, vice-president and general manager for gastro/urology therapies at Medtronic, said: "The acquisition of Advanced Uro-Solutions expands Medtronic's portfolio of treatment options for those suffering from chronic symptoms of overactive bladder."
This follows the recent completion of Medtronic's merger with Covidien, which has made the company one of the biggest healthcare technology firms in the world.
