Medtronic announces takeover of Dutch care provider Diabeter

8th April 2015

Medtronic has announced the acquisition of Diabeter, an independent diabetes clinic and research centre based in the Netherlands, for an undisclosed fee.

This marks Medtronic's first entry into a diabetes integrated care model approach and will combine the strengths of the two organisations to create a strong local and international platform for improving outcomes for people with diabetes.

Diabeter offers comprehensive and individualised care for children and young adults with diabetes. It is one of the largest independent diabetes specialist centres for type 1 paediatrics and young adults in Europe and currently manages more than 1,500 patients.

Medtronic will integrate the business into its diabetes services and solutions unit and will be aiming to develop and expand Diabeter's model of care.

Hooman Hakami, executive vice-president and president of the diabetes group at Medtronic, said the acquisition "signifies that Medtronic Diabetes is more than pumps and sensors – we are a holistic diabetes management company focused on making a real difference in outcomes and cost".

This follows Medtronic's recent acquisition of Sophono, a privately-held developer and manufacturer of innovative magnetic hearing implants.ADNFCR-8000103-ID-801782774-ADNFCR
