Medtronic launches Kyphon Express II balloon kyphoplasty platform
Medtronic has announced the launch of a new balloon kyphoplasty platform that gives physicians greater flexibility in the treatment of vertebral compression fractures.
The Kyphon Express II balloon kyphoplasty platform features a maximum pressure rating of 700 psi, representing a more powerful option for reducing fractures. It also offers the option of using the cement resistant technique, which allows one balloon to remain inflated during contralateral cement filling.
Additionally, this system includes a versatile portfolio of expanded tools, allowing for the treatment of a variety of different levels of the spine. Among the key components of the solution is the next-generation Kyphon cement delivery system (CDS), which is capable of increasing the efficiency and precision of delivering bone cement into a vertebral body.
Its key attributes include redesigned cement cartridges, an extended shelf-life and a quick release button that provides the ability to halt the flow of bone cement on demand.
Doug King, president of Medtronic's spinal business, said: "Kyphon Express II and the next-generation CDS reinforce Medtronic's commitment to continuously innovating to empower physicians to deliver the best clinical outcomes to their patients."
The firm also announced the European launch of its new TYRX absorbable antibacterial envelope product this week.
