Medtronic launches Resolute stent in Europe

Medtronic has expanded its range of stents for coronary artery disease sufferers with the launch of the Resolute Integrity Stent System.

The device has been released in Europe after receiving CE Mark accreditation, allowing physicians to take advantage of its improved deliverability.

Medtronic states that the Resolute stent has been clinically proven to offer superior performance to market-leading alternatives due to its implementation of continuous sinusoid technology, while maintaining radial strength and other key design characteristics.

This allows the drug-eluting stent to traverse the patient's vasculature and reach the blockage in the heart artery, making it more effective against a condition which is a key cause of ill health.

Sean Salmon, vice-president and general manager of Medtronic's coronary and peripheral division, said: "The Resolute Integrity Stent System provides superior deliverability and powerful performance for complex daily practice."

Earlier this month, Medtronic announced the agreement of a deal to acquire Osteotech, a move which will allow it to provide a wider range of regenerative medicine offerings.
