Medtronic names general counsel and corporate secretary

Medtronic has announced the appointment of Brad Lerman as its new senior vice-president, general counsel and corporate secretary, effective as of May 27th 2014.

He will lead global legal functions across the company, as well as directing its government affairs department and serving as a member of the firm's executive committee. He brings 25 years of legal experience in the public and private sectors to the role.

Mr Lerman joins Medtronic from the Federal National Mortgage Association, where he was employed as executive vice-president, general counsel and corporate secretary. Prior to this, he served as associate general counsel and chief litigation counsel for pharmaceutical giant Pfizer.

Medtronic chairman and chief executive officer Omar Ishrak said: "He brings strong leadership skills, litigation expertise and business acumen, which will serve him well as he takes on this role leading the global legal and government affairs teams."

This comes after Hooman Hakami was named as executive vice-president and group president of the company's diabetes business unit earlier this month.
