Medtronic names refreshed leadership team to follow Covidien merger
Medtronic has named a new executive leadership team that will take charge of the organisation following the completion of its planned takeover of Covidien.
The new-look company will be comprised of four major business groups and four geographic regions, led by a new executive committee headed by Omar Ishrak, who will remain as chairman and chief executive officer.
Mike Coyle will lead the cardiac and vascular group, with Hooman Hakami heading the diabetes business and Chris O'Connell in charge of the restorative therapies group. Meanwhile, Bryan Hanson – the current group president of Covidien – will remain in charge of the business following the takeover.
The respective companies will continue to operate under their current leadership structures and as two separate businesses.
Mr Ishrak said: "The planned acquisition of Covidien will greatly accelerate our joint vision to transform healthcare around the world, improving our ability to address the needs of more patients, in more ways, and in more places than ever before."
The Covidien takeover was announced in June 2014 and has been valued at $42.9 billion (26.87 billion pounds).
