Medtronic noted for sustainability efforts
Medtronic has put in an appearance in the Dow Jones Sustainability Index and the FTSE Good Index Series, it has emerged.
As well as this, Medtronic came in second place on Newsweek’s Green Rankings 2009 list in the healthcare industry sector.
It ranked in the top 15 per cent of 500 companies featured in the publication’s first-ever chart – which evaluates factors such as a firm’s reputation and its environmental impact.
Bill Hawkins, chairman and chief executive of Medtronic, said that the company’s mission to “contribute to human welfare with products, therapies and services that help millions of people around the world return to a full life continues to serve as the foundation of everything we do”.
In other Medtronic news, the firm presented data alongside Alnylam Pharmaceuticals last week which showed that their jointly-developed RNAi therapeutic can achieve broad distribution in the central nervous system of Huntington’s disease sufferers following direct administration.
