Medtronic recognised in leading sustainability indices
Medtronic has been included in the latest editions of the Dow Jones Sustainability World Index and the FTSE4Good Index Series, recognising its commitment to good business practices.
The medical technology firm has earned acknowledgement as a world leader in sustainability thanks to its ongoing efforts to improve its environmental performance and corporate governance.
For example, the company has launched various programmes to expand access to therapies in emerging markets, having opened a new research and development centre in China this year.
The Shanghai facility will hire and train 1,000 members of staff over the next five years and will aim to produce innovative, cost-effective strategies for the local population.
Omar Ishrak, Medtronic's chairman and chief executive officer, said: "We are proud of our efforts to address chronic disease, to follow environmentally sound business practices and to bring sustainable value to all of our stakeholders."
Earlier this month, the company published its own corporate citizenship report for 2012, which highlighted a number of environmental, employee engagement and charitable programmes it has carried out in recent months.
