Medtronic to acquire endoscopic device manufacturer Crospon
Medtronic has agreed to purchase the Irish medical technology manufacturer Crospon in a deal worth a reported $45 million (33.77 million pounds).
The deal will see Medtronic add Crospon's Endoflip and Esoflip devices to its growing gastrointestinal portfolio, providing the company with new offerings for assessing motility disorders and supporting the treatment of oesophageal strictures.
Endoflip utilises functional luminal imaging probe technology developed by Crospon, including a balloon catheter that is inserted into the relevant area and injected with a conductive solution to record voltage. This gives a clear picture of the geometry of the oesophagus, pylorus and anal sphincters.
Meanwhile, Esoflip works in conjunction with Endoflip to enable doctors to measure stricture size throughout the balloon dilation process without the use of fluoroscopy.
A spokesperson for Medtronic told the Times: "The acquisition expands our portfolio for the management of gastrointestinal diseases. With Crospon, Medtronic will have solutions to oesophageal diseases, from diagnosis to therapy."
