Medtronic’s Resolute shows efficacy in heart disease and diabetes patients
Medtronic's Resolute drug-eluting stent system has demonstrated the benefits it can offer in the treatment of patients affected by both heart disease and diabetes.
Clinical data was presented from a number of trials at the recent EuroPCR international meeting for cardiac and vascular specialists, showing that Resolute is able to deliver safe and effective outcomes among this patient group.
Data showed that members of this patient population experienced exceptionally low rates of adverse events in the company's global Resolute clinical programme, a conclusion reinforced by data from a separate study in Italy.
This represents an important benefit of the Resolute stent, as diabetes is a common co-morbidity among patients with coronary artery disease that can often cause complications.
Professor Sigmund Silber of the Heart Catheterization Centre in Munich said: "Our analysis of the on-label diabetic patient cohort from the Resolute clinical programme suggests a homogeneous treatment effect across diabetic and non-diabetic patients that we find intriguing."
Earlier this month, Medtronic announced the appointment of a new chairman and chief executive officer in Omar Ishrak, who joins the company from GE Healthcare in June 2011.
