Merck agrees takeover of Natrix Separations

Merck has announced the acquisition of the Canadian life sciences company Natrix Separations for an undisclosed fee.

Natrix is an established provider of hydrogel membrane products for single-use chromatography, offering a unique technology platform capable of delivering high productivity and impurity removal in a single-use format. 

The firm's product portfolio also includes an anion exchange membrane and cation exchange membrane, while additional products to enable a fully single-use, full-scale biological purification process are now being developed.

It is expected that this acquisition will complement Merck's efforts to enrich the next- generation bioprocessing market, which will allow it to provide faster, more efficient technology in this area for its customers.

Udit Batra, member of the Merck executive board and chief executive officer for life science, said: "This acquisition creates tremendous opportunity to drive growth and advancement in next-generation processing – an area of increasing importance to our customers."

It is estimated that the next-generation processing market will triple in size between 2020 and 2025.
