Merck launches Viresolve Barrier capsule filters for bioreactors
Merck has announced the launch of Viresolve Barrier, a new line of capsule filters designed to help mitigate the risk of viral contamination in upstream bioprocesses.
These new filters help to reduce the risk of bioreactor contamination by removing viruses, mycoplasma and bacteria from cell culture media, and are easily scalable for applications from preclinical use through to commercial manufacturing.
They offer high-flux and high-capacity virus filtration to ensure productivity without impacting cell culture performance or protein quality attributes, and are easy to implement directly in front of the bioreactor or into a media storage container.
Viresolve Barrier represents the latest addition to Merck's Viral Safety Assurance programme, which helps to minimise the potential impact on drug supply and patient safety by encompassing a holistic approach to viral safety.
Andrew Bulpin, head of the process solutions business within Merck's life science division, said: "Our new Viresolve Barrier filters reduce the risk of bioreactor contaminations that cause process downtime, costly investigations and possible drug supply disruptions that could impact patients."
