Merck Millipore launches compaction technology for cell culture media

Merck Millipore has announced the launch of a new compaction technology that can improve solubility and facilitate handling of cell culture media in biopharmaceutical production.

Used to compact dry powder cell culture media into granules, the technology is water and additive-free, applying compression force to create homogenous granules several millimetres in size.

The resulting compacted media offers better solubility, flowability and handling, making it more convenient to use, without any impact on amino acid or vitamin composition, or the physico-chemical parameters of dissolved media and feeds.

This means the media's ability to support cell growth and productivity will be retained.

Matthias Bucerius, head of pharm chemicals solutions at Merck Millipore, said: "We developed our compaction technology to address the market need for dry powder media that reliably meet those requirements. Our unique process produces compacted media that are easier to handle and deliver the expected performance."

The firm also launched its new Cellvento CHO platform of cell culture media and companion feed formulations for batch, fed-batch and perfusion applications this week.
