Merck Millipore launches Drypour pharmaceutical packaging system

Merck Millipore has announced the launch of its new Drypour packaging system, for use in the transportation and storage of hygroscopic salts used in pharmaceutical manufacturing.

The system consists of a polyethylene drum with a tamper-evident seal, a polyethylene liner with integrated desiccant bags and a breathable interior Tyvek liner. It can help improve operational efficiency by reducing the time and effort needed to break up heavily caked raw materials.

By minimising the caking of hygroscopic salts during storage and shipping, manual handling and management of the materials can be kept to a minimum. The drum and liner also prevent outside moisture from entering the product, ensuring quality is not compromised.

Philip Schaefer, head of pharmaceutical chemicals solutions at Merck Millipore, said: "The Drypour packaging system addresses the shortcomings associated with existing packaging options, increasing operational efficiency and reducing the risk of contamination."

This comes after the firm expanded its Emprove raw materials portfolio to 400 active pharmaceutical ingredients, excipients and biopharmaceutical materials with the launch of several new offerings.
