Merck Millipore to provide Breast Cancer Research Foundation grant

Merck Millipore has announced that it will be providing the Breast Cancer Research Foundation (BCRF) with funding to support its scientific research efforts.

The company has agreed to contribute $500,000 (309,800 pounds) in financial support over a four-year period, which will be used to fund promising breast cancer research efforts.

This is the latest development in the life science company's two-year alliance with the foundation, with the first project to receive funding under this scheme to focus on new methods for molecular screening.

In 2010, Merck Millipore provided a $25,000 grant to BCRF, while a portion of the proceeds from the sale of its Guava Flow Cytometry EasyCyte systems were donated to the not-for-profit organisation.

Robert Yates, president at Merck Millipore, said: "We look forward to learning more about the findings from the research conducted by the grant recipients, which may have the potential to provide new treatment options for people living with breast cancer."

This comes after Merck Millipore announced the official opening of a new bioproduction facility in France last week.
