Merck Serono provides funding for MS research
Merck Serono has granted funding support to four multiple sclerosis (MS) research programmes as part of a collaboration with a not-for-profit organisation.
In association with Fast Forward, a body established by the US-based National Multiple Sclerosis Society, the pharmaceutical company has allocated almost $1.5 million (997,000 pounds) to projects in the UK, US and Australia.
Using this funding, the researchers in question will be able to conduct trials and research to establish the efficacy of potentially promising compounds for the treatment of MS.
Dr Bernhard Kirschbaum, executive vice-president of global research and development at Merck Serono, expressed confidence that these studies could ultimately be of benefit to patients.
He added: “Merck Serono is committed to advancing scientific and medical knowledge and to furthering key research that has the potential to help people living with MS.”
Earlier this week, Merck Serono was named as one of the top places to work in the industry by The Scientists magazine, which praised the firm for its employee relations.
