Merck Serono receives EU approval for pen injector fertility treatments
Merck Serono has been granted European regulatory approval for three new prefilled ready-to-use pen injectors for fertility treatment.
The European Commission has ratified the company's new pen-based offerings of Gonal-f, Luveris and Ovidrel, which have been developed in conjunction with fertility treatment specialists.
Thanks to this new self-administration method for the three recombinant gonadotropins, patients will be able to utilise the daily treatments more conveniently.
Among their distinguishing features is a graduated reservoir scale to check the amount of medication remaining in the pen, as well as a system that provides notification that the full dose has been delivered.
Dr Bharat Tewarie, senior vice-president for the global fertility and metabolic endocrinology business unit at Merck Serono, said: "Merck Serono is continuously working on improving its administration devices in order to meet patients' and healthcare professionals' needs."
Earlier this week, the company applied for EU approval for a new indication of its drug Rebif among patients with early indicators of multiple sclerosis.
