Merck Serono to distribute Mendor products in UK

Merck Serono has signed a new distribution agreement for diabetes technology from Mendor in the UK.

The agreement will see the companies begin introducing products to the British market in March 2012, with the blood glucose meter Mendor Discreet set to be the first new offering covered by the deal.

A versatile device that contains all necessary components for daily blood glucose measurements in a mobile phone-sized unit, it will be showcased to British healthcare professionals at the Diabetes UK exhibition in Glasgow.

Other products that will be encompassed by the agreement include Mendor Balance, a cloud-based self-care application that helps patients to assess their own treatment progress and set targets for themselves.

Mendor chief executive officer Kristian Ranta said: "We are looking forward to building a better future for people with diabetes together with solid partners such as Merck Serono."

This comes after Merck Serono signed an agreement to develop a new anti-cancer therapy with Threshold Pharmaceuticals earlier this month.
