Merck to provide Mobius bioreactors to Celonic

13th September 2017

Merck has signed a new equipment supply agreement with the Swiss contract development and manufacturing organisation (CDMO) Celonic.

The client is upgrading its manufacturing facility in Basel with five of Merck's Mobius single-use bioreactors, with 50, 200 and 2,000-litre bioreactors to augment its development and manufacturing capabilities.

It is expected that this upgrade will expand Celonic's upstream capabilities, offering greater  batch success rates, less cross-contamination risk, decreased water requirements, shortened project duration and reduced project costs compared to conventional stainless steel systems.

Andrew Bulpin, head of Merck's process solutions business unit, said: "Our extensive portfolio of single-use technologies allows us to support CDMO customers like Celonic as they adopt new technologies and expand their capabilities."

The firm is supplying bioreactor technology to a wide range of manufacturers, several of which are already collaborating with the company in this space in North America, Europe and Asia.

This reflects growing demand for end-to-end solutions that help to cut manufacturing costs while increasing quality and efficiency.
