Merck wins award for Sanger Arrayed Lentiviral CRISPR Libraries

Merck has been awarded an industry accolade for its groundbreaking Sanger Arrayed Lentiviral CRISPR Libraries.

The offering, which were the first CRISPR libraries of their kind, have received an R&D 100 Award from R&D Magazine in the analytical and testing category, marking the fifth year in a row that the company has received an R&D 100 Award.

These libraries are the first human and mouse arrayed lentiviral CRISPR libraries for knocking out and screening gene function, allowing for the discovery of genes involved in drug resistance, human disease and a wide variety of biological processes.

Researchers can use the library to screen the entire genome, or select specific genes and pathways to screen using the associated clones. These benefits earned the libraries a place among the year's 100 most innovative scientific and technological breakthroughs.

Udit Batra, a member of Merck's executive board and chief executive officer of life sciences, said: "We will continue to collaborate with the global scientific community to deliver the promise of their innovations faster and work to accelerate access to health for people everywhere."

This comes after the firm won R&D Awards for its AFS water purification systems and Simplicon RNA Reprogramming Technology last year.
