Merial launches single-tube version of GastroGard

17th November 2014

Merial has announced the launch of a single-tube pack version of GastroGard, its omeprazole-based therapy for gastric ulcer prevention for horses.

The launch of the single tube gives vets more flexibility in helping owners to prevent gastric ulcers, meaning they no longer need to prescribe the product in bulk. A dispensing pack for vets is also being introduced to help facilitate storage.

Merial's equine marketing and technical manager Louise Radford said: "In the past vets have needed to prescribe a seven-day treatment pack. However, the single-tube option provides a convenient prevention dose solution at one-quarter of the normal treatment dose."

This follows the introduction of the educational GastroGard Blippar App earlier this year, which offers a wide range of educational information and management tips for owners post-prescription.

Customers also have the option of signing up for text reminder and event notification services, making it easier still to ensure the risk of gastric ulcers is addressed proactively.

Around 60 percent of competition horses and 38 percent of leisure horses and ponies are estimated to have gastric ulcers, a condition that is historically undertreated.ADNFCR-8000103-ID-801760666-ADNFCR
