Merial’s NexGard Spectra licensed for lungworm prevention
Merial has announced that its oral chew NexGard Spectra has been licensed for use in lungworm prevention in dogs.
The beef-flavoured chew becomes the first and only product that can prevent lungworm and kill ticks at the same time, meaning pet owners no longer need to rely on multiple products with different methods of administration or treatment frequencies.
It also kills fleas and treats gastrointestinal roundworms such as toxocara through the use of a unique combination of active ingredients, including afoxolaner and milbemycin oxime.
Lynda Maris, product manager for the NexGard Spectra brand at Merial, said the product launch means "pet owners don't have to concern themselves with administering different products and vets know that in the face of a rapidly changing situation, there is a simple way to make sure their patients are protected".
A recent vet practice sampling campaign showed that 79 percent of dogs took NexGard Spectra readily or perceived it to be a treat, while more than 90 percent of respondents to the survey said they would be likely or very likely to recommend it to clients.
