Micromeritics awards Tufts

25th April 2008

Micromeritics has awarded its sixth instrumentation grant to Tufts University.

The particle technology firm’s special grant selection committee chose the university’s chemical and biological engineering department for the award.

It will receive an AutoChem II 2920 catalyst characterisation system as its reward for the recognition.

Professor Maria Flytzani-Stephanopoulos, principal investigator and director of the university’s nanocatalysis and energy laboratory, said: "The focus of our research group is on clean energy technologies, in particular fuel processing and catalytic hydrogen generation that involves fundamental studies of catalysts.

"Studies of surface processes and materials characterisation are of paramount importance to our research effort."

According to the company, the Massachusetts university is recognised among the premier research universities in the US and enjoys a global reputation for academic excellence and for the preparation of students for a wide range of professions.

The organisation was started by a graduate student called Warren Hendrix and his assistant Clyde Orr in 1962.

Its name is a term used to describe the science and technology of small particles, according to the firm.
