Millipore and University of Dundee extend license agreement

Bioscience technology and manufacturing company Millipore has announced the extension of a license agreement with the University of Dundee.

First established in 1995, the contract involves the commercialisation of cell signalling materials which are then used in research applications.

Millipore will now have access to more research tools developed by director of the Medical Research Council Protein Phosphorylation Unit Sir Philip Cohen and vice-principal head of college Professor Peter Downes.

"Our relationship with the university is part of our long-term strategy to tap the expertise of leading academic institutions and bring innovative technologies and tools to our life science customers," explained Rick Ryan, vice-president of the bioscience drug discovery business unit at Millipore.

Meanwhile, Millipore recently opened a new manufacturing facility which nearly doubles the company’s capabilities in Ireland.

It said the site at Carrigtwohill in County Cork measured 30,000 sq ft and was set to produce "a majority" of the company’s membranes, which are used in items needing purification and precise filtration.
