MoD says a review endorses its excellent medical care

The Healthcare Commission’s assessment of the Defence Medical Services has endorsed the excellent care it offers servicemen and women on operations, it has been stated.

During the report, the Ministry of Defence’s (MoD) trauma and rehabilitation facilities were praised, as were the quick and effective treatment of casualties and the design of its field hospitals.

Surgeon lieutenant general Louis Lillywhite stated: “This is testament to the professionalism and courage of our medical staff that deploy to Iraq and Afghanistan.”

He added that the dedication of individuals and organisations in the UK supported them in helping to achieve such positive results and feedback.

Recommendations from the commission have been taken into consideration and actions have already begun, general Lillywhite continued.

He concluded that discussions have commenced with NHS colleagues to plan how to share their best practices.

The Healthcare Commission checks the quality and safety of treatment and care provided by public bodies and independent organisations.

It asserts that it works to improve services for patients and the public.
