MS Society develops an online guidance course to tackle fatigue in people suffering from MS
The MS Society has developed an online guidance course in aid to tackle fatigue in people suffering from multiple sclerosis (MS). Previous to this, the MS society had been running workshops for patients suffering from the condition, but it cost the NHS an estimated four hundred and fifty-three pounds per person and put pressure on health care workers.
The online workshops, which are cost-effective and relieve stress from healthcare workers, last twenty minutes and use techniques like the Cognitive Behavioural Method to teach people with MS how to identify and solve unhelpful thinking patterns.
MS Society’s Chief Executive, Nick Moberly, stated: “More than one-hundred and thirty-thousand people live with MS in the UK and while it is unpredictable and different for everyone, fatigue affects around eighty-per cent of us living with the condition. We get over one-hundred thousand visits to the fatigue pages on our website each year so we’re thrilled to work with researchers at Bournemouth University to create a new, much-needed tool that offers improved support. We’re confident it will go a long way to helping thousands of people living with the debilitating effects of daily MS fatigue and incredibly grateful to those living with MS who helped shape the user experience.”
