MSD Animal Health launches Porceptal fertility treatment in Europe
MSD Animal Health has announced the European launch of Porceptal, a new product for use in the artificial insemination of sows.
The latest addition to the Repropig management system, Porceptal induces ovulation in pigs 30 to 33 hours after application and allows producers to inseminate large batches of animals at a predetermined time, instead of via multiple inseminations.
Timing and synchronising ovulation in this way helps producers simplify their breeding schedule and reduce the amount of time spent on heat checks and inseminations. Customers will also be able to purchase less semen from a smaller number of higher-quality boars.
Other products in the Repropig reproductive health management platform include the Regumate, PG-600 and Planate brands.
Narciso Bento of MSD Animal Health's global swine business said: "We are pleased to announce the addition of Porceptal to the Repropig portfolio to help producers maximise their reproductive efficiency while optimising costs and simplifying their schedules."
The company recently gave a presentation on the return on investment associated with fixed-time insemination at the European Symposium of Porcine Health Management, which took place in Italy earlier this month.
