MSD Animal Health launches vaccine for myxomatosis and RHD

14th December 2011

MSD Animal Health has announced the European launch of its new Nobivac Myxo-RHD vaccine for myxomatosis and rabbit haemorrhagic disease (RHD).

The new treatment is designed for use among pet rabbits and provides protection from two viral infections that are not regularly vaccinated against, but which can result in high mortality rates among wild and domestic rabbits alike.

Immunity to the diseases is provided within three weeks of administration, while MSD Animal Health has also removed two virulence factors in the genome to ensure the vaccine has minimal side effects.

The launch of Nobivac Myxo-RHD is also being supported by the distribution of a range of educational materials, designed to inform rabbit owners of the need to look after their pet's health.

Jac Bergman, global marketing director for small animal vaccines at Merck Animal Health, said: "This single dose vaccine against both myxomatosis and RHD is an innovative new generation product, giving veterinarians the opportunity to offer comprehensive, year-long immunisation to pet rabbits."

Last month, the company received a European regulatory recommendation for Panacur AquaSol, a new swine dewormer treatment.ADNFCR-8000103-ID-801239457-ADNFCR
