MSD Animal Health’s Panacur AquaSol receives EU recommendation
MSD Animal Health has received a recommendation from an EU committee for Panacur AquaSol, a new treatment against gastrointestinal conditions among swine.
The Committee for Medicinal Products for Veterinary Use (CVMP) has endorsed the new product, for use in drinking water, as a means of combating infections associated with Ascaris suum and Oesophagostomum spp.
Panacur AquaSol is a suspension for use in drinking water to control gastrointestinal nematodes, having been developed from the established deworming agent Panacur.
Having assessed safety, quality and efficacy data, the CVMP has ruled that the benefit/risk profile of the pharmaceutical agent is favourable and is therefore backing the granting of a marketing authorisation.
MSD Animal Health noted: "Parasite infections can be economically important to the swine business as they can interfere with piglet or sow vaccination, restrict growth, affect sow productivity and reduce animal feed efficiency."
This comes after the firm launched Expertis Udder Health last month, a new farm management tool for veterinarians.
