Mylan launches bioequivalent alternative to GlaxoSmithKline asthma therapy

Mylan has announced the launch of Sirdupla, the first bioequivalent alternative to GlaxoSmithKline's asthma treatment Seretide Evohaler.

The pressurised metered-dose inhaler will be manufactured by 3M Drug Delivery Systems and is indicated to help treat or prevent symptoms of asthma in adults aged 18 and older.

Seretide Evohaler is the UK's leading prescribed asthma therapy that combines a long-acting beta 2 agonist with an inhaled corticosteroid pressurised metered-dose inhaler.

The new generic version will be filled, assembled and packaged at 3M's manufacturing facility in Loughborough, an arrangement that will combine 3M's expertise in inhalation drug development and manufacturing with Mylan's knowledge of the global generics market.

Mylan president Rajiv Malik said: "Mylan is excited to be the first company to offer adult asthma patients in the UK the generic version of Seretide Evohaler, delivering on our mission to increase access to high quality medicine."

The company offers a portfolio of around 1,400 generic pharmaceuticals worldwide and currently markets products in around 145 countries and territories.
