Nanocellulose Provides Cheaper and Sustainable Cellulose Alternative
Although cellulose is a biopolymer that won’t be running out anytime soon, its promise as a sustainable material is restricted because it is a large expense and has a significant footprint.
The manufacture of cellulose in its crystalline form, nanocellulose, can be done faster and at a fraction of the cost, while also having less impact on the environment. This improvement is enabled by CELLiCON’s G2 technology.
From this development, a variety of industrial items such as superglues and clear films may be produced. The innovation also works as a substitute for starch or polystyrene.
According to Daniel Rytz, Head of Strategy and Business Development at Sulzer Chemtech, the move would increase the company’s processing capabilities for bio-based and renewable raw materials.
