New flu vaccination programme launched across England
The government has launched the biggest ever flu vaccination programme in England for children this week.
The Stay Well This Winter campaign is being spearheaded by Public Health England and NHS England to provide more than four million children with protection against flu – around 600,000 more than last year.
This year, the programme is being extended to those in school year 3; meanwhile, a school vaccination scheme is also set to get underway, allowing children in years 1, 2 and 3 to get the free nasal spray vaccination at school.
A recent survey showed that 37 percent of parents of eligible children are unaware of the nasal spray, prompting the government to launch a TV, radio and online advertising campaign to address the problem.
Chief medical officer Professor Dame Sally Davies said: "The single best way to help protect your children and the rest of the family is to get them vaccinated. For most, it is just a quick, easy and painless nasal spray."
