New Outbreaks of Avian Flu Identified in Scotland
Landowners in Fraserburgh and Aberdeenshire received verification of bird flu of the H5N1 variant.
The illness was also verified in an additional farm situated near Kirkcudbright, Dumfries, and Galloway.
The impacted areas are now surrounded by a 3 km Protection Zone and a 10 km Surveillance Zone, according to the Scottish authorities.
To stop further transmission of illness, mobility limitations must be implemented throughout these areas.
Deputy veterinary officer for the UK, Dr. Christine Middlemiss, stated ‘scrupulous biosecurity’ continues to be the most important line of security to protect the birds.
She added, “The unprecedented nature of this outbreak has proven it’s more important than ever for bird keepers to remain vigilant for signs of disease and maintain stringent standards of biosecurity.”
