NHS England backs new innovations for NHS use
NHS England has unveiled the new technologies that are to be fast-tracked into NHS use via the Innovation and Technology Payment Programme (ITP).
The ITP helps to create conditions and cultural change necessary so the NHS can adopt a faster and more systematic approach. The latest round of technical advances to be put through a competitive process includes an image analysis software that creates a 3D image of the heart (Heartflow), A surgical suture that will reduce the rick of infections and a bowel scope that improves colorectal examinations for patients who are being screen for bowl cancer.
Also joining the rounds is SecuaAcath, a device that will secure catheters and reduce the risk of infection and the time taken to care and treat dressing changes.
National clinical lead for Innovation at NHS England, Professor Tony Young comments “For new innovations to flourish and spread at scale access to funding is critical, by buying these four innovations centrally NHS England has removed the barriers to the spread of these innovations so patients can benefit faster,”
