NIHR Claims Life Sciences Sector Shows Indication of Revival

The most recent yearly figures released by the NIHR Clinical Research Network, market research is exhibiting indications of recovery after the pandemic. On the NIHR CRN Portfolio, there were almost 1760 pieces of commercialised research, nearly 200 more than the pandemic. The amount of novel industry-led research has also climbed to 764.

This has allowed almost 32,330 individuals to participate in research projects financed by the life sciences sector, up from just over 28,830 in 2019/20.

Laura Bousfield, NIHR Head of Feasibility and Start Up said:

“This revolutionary change in the way we work is possible because the UK is unique, our health and research ecosystem is unique, and we are global pioneers in this space. More and more countries are reaching out to understand how the UK costing and contracting model works. It is an exceptional achievement which will make the UK a more attractive prospect for global commercial clinical trials, which will ultimately give NHS patients access to more innovative treatments through participation in those trials.”

She goes on to say It is a remarkable achievement that will make the UK a more appealing option for worldwide commercial clinical trials, allowing NHS patients to have access to more new treatments
