Novartis announces aid for Haiti earthquake victims
Novartis has announced that it will provide $2.5 million (1.53 million pounds) for aid operations currently taking place in Haiti following the earthquake that hit the country last week.
The company will distribute the money through its local organisations, ensuring that the funds reach nationally recognised relief bodies.
Employees of the firm are also being encouraged to make donations to the aid efforts and Novartis has pledged to match these.
Additionally, essential medicines, such as pain-relieving drugs and antibiotics, will also be offered by the company to those in Haiti.
Dr Daniel Vasella, chairman and chief executive officer of Novartis, commented: “Our experience of providing support in the wake of natural disasters has proven successful, ensuring that we can get aid to the people in need fast and efficiently.”
Last week, Novartis announced the availability of its latest product, Fanapt (iloperidone) tablets, which are indicated for use in adult patients suffering from schizophrenia.
