Novartis announces technology platform collaboration with Cerulean Pharma
Novartis has agreed a new strategic collaboration with Cerulean Pharma to develop cutting-edge therapies based on novel technology.
The companies will work together to create nanoparticle-drug conjugate (NDC) product candidates, combining Cerulean's proprietary Dynamic Tumour Targeting technology with Novartis' proprietary compounds directed at up to five targets.
Dynamic Tumour Targeting allows for the creation of NDCs designed to selectively attack tumour cells, reduce toxicity by sparing the body's normal cells and enable therapeutic combinations.
Cerulean will create the product candidates, with Novartis taking responsibility for further development and commercialisation of any products resulting from the collaboration.
Under the terms of the deal, Cerulean will receive an upfront payment of $5 million (4.09 million pounds) plus funding for five full-time equivalents, as well as preclinical, clinical, regulatory and sales-based milestone fees for each target.
