Novartis highlights diversity issues at annual BioCamp
Novartis has highlighted its commitment to diversity at its annual International Biotechnology Leadership Camp (BioCamp) seminar.
Over the course of a three-day event, 60 selected students from leading international universities in 24 countries were given the chance to interact with Novartis staff and receive guidance on key trends affecting the biotechnology sector.
Among the key themes of this year's conference was the growing role of diversity in driving innovation in terms of scientific research, as this provides a wide range of insights and individual approaches.
Joseph Jimenez, chief executive officer of Novartis, noted that diversity is a "pivotal foundational stone" of its overall operational strategy.
"Our goal at Novartis … is to educate and inspire the next generation of scientists – building the talent pool not only for Novartis affiliates, but leaders for the entire healthcare industry," he explained.
Last month, the company announced the launch of the 2011 PRIMe Award scheme, which will offer funding and support for young investigators conducting kidney cancer research.
