Novartis launches new ViaOpta apps for smartwatches
Novartis has introduced new and updated versions of its ViaOpta apps that have been optimised for use with smartwatches.
The applications are intended to help support people with visual impairments and have now been upgraded for use with devices such as the Apple Watch and Android Wear, with a number of different language options provided.
Features include a step-by-step navigation tool and functions that help facilitate recognition of everyday items such as money, colours, objects and people, all of which can enhance independent living in this patient group.
The smartphone versions of these apps won the European Excellence Award in 2014 and were downloaded more than 6,700 times during the first two months after launch.
David Epstein, head of the pharma division at Novartis Pharmaceuticals, said: "We are proud to contribute and play a role in making these simple and convenient tools like the ViaOpta Daily and ViaOpta Nav apps available around the world."
Earlier this week, the company announced the launch of Spinifex Pharmaceuticals, a developer of new peripheral approaches to treat neuropathic pain.
