Novo Nordisk Norditropin NordiFlex injection pen now available

Novo Nordisk has announced that its 30 mg/3 ml pre-filled, pre-loaded Norditropin [somatropin] injection pen is available for patient use.

Designed to be administered primarily for children with growth failure, the pen was approved earlier this year by the Food and Drug Administration and provides a double dose of growth hormone so patients can receive two injections in one.

The dosage can be adjusted either up or down in units of 0.1 mgs up to a maximum of 6 mgs.

It is an ideal treatment for children displaying a deficiency in growth hormone production, those with Noonan Syndrome or Turner Syndrome and youngsters who have not developed fully before they reach two to four years of age.

Adults who do not produce enough growth hormones may also be treated with the pen.

“Solutions that allow for more convenient use ultimately help make life easy for the patient,” explained Mark Sperling, professor at the department of paediatrics at the University of Pittsburgh. “Teachers may treat them as though they are younger or they may be teased by their peers.”

Last week, Novo Nordisk announced that its operating profits had increased by 39 per cent from January 1st to June 30th this year.
