Novo Nordisk renews European diabetes study partnership
Novo Nordisk has renewed its partnership with two research organisations into the study of type 1 diabetes in Europe.
The company has agreed to continue its work with the European Foundation for the Study of Diabetes and the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, which covers any area of basic or clinical research focusing on the disease and its complications.
This alliance has been ongoing since 2004 and will now receive a fresh investment of 1.8 million euros (1.1 million pounds), which will fund a wide range of research projects to be conducted over the next three years.
Mads Krogsgaard Thomsen, executive vice-president and chief science officer at Novo Nordisk, said the alliance will continue to work towards better understanding of the disease's pathogenesis and the development of new treatments.
He added: "We hope that this partnership will generate new important knowledge and support scientists in working towards our common goal of defeating diabetes."
Earlier this week, Novo Nordisk published a study showing that many diabetes patients are having trouble adhering to insulin therapy, due to the difficulty of incorporating treatment into their lifestyles.
