Novo Nordisk reports positive Xultophy clinical trial findings
Novo Nordisk has announced new phase IIIb findings for Xultophy, also known as IDegLira, a once-daily, single-injection combination of insulin degludec and liraglutide.
Data from the DUAL V study showed that adults with type 2 diabetes treated with Xultophy experienced a statistically significant reduction in blood glucose levels, change in body weight and a lower rate of hypoglycaemia compared with patients treated with insulin glargine.
This comes part of the wider DUAL clinical trial programme, which includes two phase IIIa and a number of phase IIIb trials encompassing more than 3,500 people with type 2 diabetes.
Professor John Buse of the University of North Carolina School of Medicine at Chapel Hill said: "The results demonstrated that IDegLira treatment could positively impact patients who are not in control on their current basal insulin therapy."
Xultophy was granted marketing authorisation by the European Commission in September 2014.
It is one of a number of diabetes drugs from Novo Nordisk, with its portfolio also including the leading Victoza therapy.
