Novo Nordisk says type 1 diabetes cure a step closer

17th May 2018

Novo Nordisk has increased investment in stem cell-based therapies and other serious chronic diseases. As one of the biggest producers of insulin based and other diabetes products, Novo says it has made a significant development in a stem cell therapy which replaces the beta cells missing in type 1 diabetes patients. This brings the company one step closer to a cure that might eventually make patients no longer dependent on insulin.
“Finding a cure for diabetes is part of Novo Nordisk’s vision and recent progress in our stem cell research and the access to robust and high-quality cell lines raises hopes for people with type 1 diabetes,” said Mads Krogsgaard Thomsen, Novo Nordisk’s executive vice president and chief science officer.
