Novo Nordisk to create Danish haemophilia treatment manufacturing site

Novo Nordisk has announced plans to develop a new facility in Kalundborg, Denmark for the production of active pharmaceutical ingredients.

The company will spend 1.5 billion Danish kroner (148.7 million pounds) to create the 7,500 sq m facility, which will be used to create ingredients for NovoSeven and future products for the treatment of haemophilia.

A groundbreaking ceremony took place yesterday (May 4th 2015) to mark the commencement of the building work, with the site expected to be completed, approved and fully operational by 2020.

It is expected that the project will lead to the creation of 100 new production and engineering jobs in Kalundborg, where the company has operated since 1969 and employs more than 2,800 people.

Henrik Wulff, executive vice-president for product supply at Novo Nordisk, said: "This year alone we expect Novo Nordisk will create about 250 new jobs in Kalundborg, and we are always on the lookout for capable and highly-skilled employees."

During the first quarter of 2015, Novo Nordisk delivered a sales total of 25.2 billion Danish kroner, up by 24 percent on the same period last year.
