NSA Launches Campaign to Combat Rising Sheep Attacks

The National Sheep Association (NSA) is actively addressing the escalating issue of sheep worrying due to uncontrolled dogs in the UK. In response to increasing reports, the NSA has planned a week-long awareness campaign starting March 30, 2026. This initiative aims to engage dog owners, industry bodies, and the public to mitigate risks during the peak lambing season, safeguarding both livestock and farmers’ livelihoods.

Every spring, as the days grow longer, dog walkers in the UK countryside contribute to a heightened risk of sheep worrying, coinciding with lambing season. The NSA’s campaign seeks to emphasise the severity of these incidents, which not only compromise sheep welfare but also cause significant stress and financial strain on farmers. With cases on the rise, the NSA is calling for responsible pet ownership to prevent further attacks. By gathering insights from dog owners about their understanding of the issue, the NSA aims to bridge knowledge gaps and foster cooperative prevention strategies. Their efforts will be supported by a social media campaign using the #LeadOn hashtag, alongside a newly released media toolkit for public engagement.

Through this proactive campaign, the NSA aims to foster greater awareness and collaboration among the public and industry stakeholders. By addressing sheep worrying head-on, the NSA hopes to protect both vulnerable livestock and the mental health of farmers, ensuring a more secure and prosperous farming community.
