Nursing recommendations to PM published

The latest recommendations from the Nursing and Care Quality Forum to the prime minister have been published, highlighting a number of areas where NHS nursing operations could be improved.

According to the report, there is a growing need for appropriate staffing levels and the proper mix of skills in the workplace to ensure smooth operation, as well as the freeing up of senior staff to provide a greater supervisory role over wards.

Furthermore, the recommendations included a call to action to boost the number of nursing staff who would be happy for their loved ones to be treated in their place of work.

The forum's chairperson Sally Brearley commented: "Our initial recommendations … highlight the good work that many are already doing to ensure that nursing and care is of the best quality and we want others to benefit from these lessons."

Earlier this month, the Department of Health unveiled a new strategy to open up GP records to members of the public via online services by 2015 in order to improve access to information for patients.
